Second Ward High School National Alumni Foundation

The Second Ward Foundation is one of the best sources for local African American history.  During Black History month we frequently bring our exhibits and help develop content for news, television, museums and schools.  

We have great materials that are available to individuals and groups. Our archive  holds a collection of photographs, publications, memorabilia, and a digital collection of images telling the history of the Second Ward and other black neighborhoods.

The House/Museum currently features exhibits on Beatties Ford Road's history and  the Isabella Wyche School, once located in Charlotte's Third Ward near the football stadium.

Working with Second Ward volunteers, we have been project leaders in helping the public library produce a community history, The African American Album.

The second part of this project was a CD-ROM and website sharing in multi-media the history's of th area's black community.

Content from several history collaborations are available at the House/Museum  including: 

• materials from local history museums exhibits,
• national research projects such as the Behind the Veil Project that featured several alumni and
• community photos that are collected and copied.

These materials are available for research, visitors and group tours.
