About the event
Second Ward High School continues to be a major part of the African-American history in
Charlotte, North Carolina. When its doors opened in 1923 it became the first school in
Charlotte to educate black students.
Although the doors of Second Ward closed in 1969, it still continues to leave a lifelong legacy
of family, love, hope, hard work, determination, resilience, and perseverance.
